Why organic? Oh don’t get us started… there are so many reasons but here are a few:

For Your Bub

Bubnest was created to give every bub the best possible start in life by providing a healthy, safe, natural, chemical free place for your bub to rest. Organic cotton is grown without the use of toxic synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers, ensuring that bub is not exposed to any harmful chemicals, which the long-term effects are still unknown.

When having bubs ourselves, we realised how much damage unknown chemicals and toxins could potentially cause this little tiny weeny precious person that became our everything. We just did not want to take the risk and chose the safe alternative by producing our very own organic baby sleeper, known today as the Bubnest.  We will never ever offer anything that we wouldn’t use for our own bubs.

For the Worker

Conventional cotton farming can pose serious health risks to the farmers and farming communities, and the effect is amplified in areas where there is no access to sufficient affordable health care. Conventional cotton products can cause skin irritations and other health effects due to residue from pesticides and chemical agents, particularly formaldehyde, which is part of the finishing process.

Using organic cotton ensures that not only the end-user but any person involved in any part of the bubnest-production-process is working in a healthy environment safe from toxic chemicals, whether it is cotton farmer in India or seamstress in Australia.

For the Environment

Did you know that conventionally grown cotton accounts for 24% of worldwide insecticide use and 11% of pesticide use which can harm people, wildlife and the environment? These chemicals seep into the earth and increase the likelihood of contamination of the soil in which our children’s food and water come from. Organic cotton is environmentally friendly and is grown without pesticides and toxic synthetic fertilizers. It uses farming techniques that focus on soil and plant health, including crop rotation. Due to the improved soil quality, organic cotton uses significantly less water and energy, and it releases less greenhouse gases.

Our actions on climate change today will shape the future of our children. We want Bubnest bubs to have a world to live in when they grow up.

What about Polyester Wadding?

Nearly 70 million barrels of oil are used each year to make the world’s polyester fibre (plastic) and it takes more than 200 years for it to decompose. Plastic microfibers shed from our synthetic fabric into the water supply and account for 85% of the human-made material found along ocean shores, threatening marine wildlife and ending up in our food and water supply. Cheap synthetic fibres also emit gases like N2O, which is 300 times more damaging than CO2. Do you want your bub resting on oil or plastic?  No thank you!

Organic certification

Our material has organic certifications which means that the entire process was monitored to meet stringent standards – from when the cotton is grown and harvested on the field, to how it is milled, woven and printed. Furthermore, the certification requires fair working conditions throughout the entire production process which is important to us.
